Loxですしを作った／Sushi with Pink Salmon Lox

今年もパッポラくんのクラスのThank you buddiesになった。12月と６月に先生やコーディネーターのお母さんなどへ贈るカードやギフトを考える係（自分で勝手に提案した係...笑）。実は、ギフトでしばらく温めていたアイデアがあった。各家族が学期に一回だけ、何かできれば手作りで（できない人は買ったもので）食べ物を贈ろうというもの。そしてこの12月に提案して、皆ものってくれ、昨日はうちの順番。作ったのはすし。でついでにうちの夕飯もすしになった。

パッポラパパが去年釣ったピンクサーモンを薫製にしてくれたので、それもおすしに入れた。ピンクサーモンって脂があまりのっていないのだが、薫製にするとおいしい。いわゆるベーグルでクリームチーズといっしょに食べるLox。

友だちや彼氏の影響で、新しいことを始めたりすることってある。私にとっての巻きずしはまさにそれ。日本にいるときは作ったこともなかったけど、アメリカ人が好きなので作る様になった。もう数えきれないぐらい作って来て、そういえば、ここ竜宮島でも子供も含めて料理クラスで100人ぐらいに教えてきてるぐらい。つまり、うちでは巻きずしはちっともごちそうじゃなく、「ああ寿司でも作るか、よっこらしょ」という感じはなく、アメリカ人がサンドイッチを作るような感覚で作ってると思う。

ところで、すしで今、ふと思い出したのは、去年のパッポラくんの誕生日会。巻きずしを作ったら、クラスメート（全員アメリカ人）の子供たちが食べる食べる。なんとお腹が一杯でケーキを拒否した子供もいたくらい。しかも一番人気は、マグロだった。いい時代になった。＾＾

Pink Salmon Sushi

I am one of the Thank you buddies for Pappora's class. We think about gift and card ideas for the hard working class teacher or coordinator presented in December and June. This December, I proposed each family offer them food once  this term. The food can be homemade or store bought. And the idea was accepted and our family's turn came yesterday. I know they like sushi so I made it for them and our dinner too.

The pink salmon Pappora papa caught  last year and smoked at home was included in the sushi. The pink salmon has less fat content but smoking turns Pink Salmon really yummy. It tastes just like lox for bagels.

Friends or your boy friend might inspire you to get started with a new thing. Sushi is like that for me. I did not make sushi in Japan but here in the US, so many Americans love sushi, which led me to the kitchen for sushi making countless times. Perhaps  I have taught nearly 100 people including children on the island how to make sushi in a cooking class setting so far. Sushi is definitely not a feast in my family and I feel easy about making it the way Americans probably feel about making sandwiches.  

By the way, Pappora-kun's  classmates love sushi. I made sushi for his birthday last year. Some  refused to eat birthday cake because they did not have space in their stomachs after gobbling sushi. They especially liked maguro, tuna. Food globalisation is under way on this island too. : )
